MACHINE MUSIC DVD & TOUR
Gary Numan will release a new DVD, Machine Music: The Best Of Gary Numan on 11th June 2012.
This limited edition DVD will bring together for the first time promos and some TV appearances from right across his career, including the pioneering videos made for tracks such as ‘We Are Glass’ and ‘I Die: You Die’, right up to more recent promos ‘The Fall’ (from the 2011 Dead Son Rising album) and the Battles collaboration ‘My Machines.’
The DVD will initially be sold on the Machine Music Tour which runs from late May into early June and will feature a one-off set, based around Gary Numan’s singles over the last 33 years, and material from the recent Dead Son Rising album.
Numan will be supported by Officers at all the shows except for Dublin. Their ‘On The Twelve Thrones’ album was a personal favourite of Numan’s last year: “Great melodies, powerful, dark. I’ve been waiting quite a while for something this good”.
Fans and film-makers can participate in this unique event by making visuals to be projected during a selection of tracks on the tour. These songs are ‘This Wreckage’, ‘Bombers’, ‘Berserker’, ‘Call Out The Dogs’, ‘Warriors’ and ‘Dominion Day’.
We’re looking for ideas, however abstract, that illustrate the tracks via the on-stage projection screen as part of the show – please no images of Gary Numan – these are for the staging of the shows, not promo videos.
The format is 16:9 widescreen and HD. Gary will choose the best films to be screened at all the shows on the tour. If you wish to participate in this then please send links to your films to the management contact address on www.numan.co.uk Please don’t send us any files, as we won’t have time to look at them: we just want to see your ideas on a You Tube or Vimeo link.

He was also nominated in the ‘Best Electro Act of 2011′ category which was won by John Foxx and The Maths, Gary presenting the award to John and the band. Gary was also nominated, kind of, in the ‘Best Single’ category as the Battles feat Gary Numan single ‘My Machine’ was one of the nominations. Later in the day he DJ’d at the awards aftershow party with Ade Fenton.
DEAD SON RISING REVIEWS
‘Its diversity is its strength. ‘Big Noise Transmission’ does what it says on the tin, but just as potent is ‘When The Sky Bleeds’ with skeletal electronic rhythms swelling into a chorus where Numan sounds surprisingly soulful. Brilliant!’ MOJO
‘The untouchable mafia dons of the 20th Century are discussing him in deity-like terms (Prince: ‘There are still people trying to work out what a genius Gary Numan is.’).
All of that certainly rings true when you’re dealing with an artist who sounds this good 30 years into their career. Gary Numan has delivered one of the great conceptual dystopian rock albums of all time . . . ‘ ALBUM OF THE MONTH, ARTROCKER
‘Synth-pop pioneer’s guitar crunch album is a cracker. The tracks ‘Dead Sun Rising’ and ‘Not The Love We Dream Of’ are as good as anything he’s ever done. Dead Son Rising is now and it’s excellent.’ CLASSIC ROCK
‘Experimental and classic Numan. Rather than resting on his laurels, Numan is out there fashioning new ones.’ RECORD COLLECTOR
‘Cold digital riffing and tuneful sci-fi sermons. 2011 looks like one of those years when Gary Numan finds himself in fashion.’ UNCUT
‘The highlights are hooky enough to recall Numan’s chart-bothering past.’ CLASH MAGAZINE
ARTROCKER
Gary and John Foxx appear together on the cover of the cutting edge, indie-rock magazine Artrocker. There are also eight pages of interviews with them both inside. The magazine is available in W H Smiths, or you can order a copy online (with free UK delivery) from www.artrocker.tv
ALL SAINTS – GQ – GARY NUMAN
A Gary Numan section has been added to the All Saints web site. It features a gallery, a fantastic 25 minute black and white filmed interview, one of the best Numan interviews ever in our opinion, plus a haunting spoken word piece. Look under ‘Basement Sessions : To Celebrate GQ’s Create Britain’.

THANK YOU
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that came along to see the first part of the Dead Son Rising tour. I can’t remember ever having more enjoyable or exciting gigs in the UK, certainly not for a very long time. The crowds seemed to be even more positive and enthusiastic than usual, more energetic, more committed. I was getting huge waves of feedback from the audiences during the shows which clearly had an equally huge effect on what I was doing. As a band we talked about it a lot after each gig and everyone felt it. I don’t know the cause, but I hope it continues because it was an amazing experience for me to be standing there in front of you, taking it all in, and hopefully giving it right back. Incredibly positive comments after each show for which I am very grateful. The Dead Son Rising album seems to be a triumph which I am also very grateful for. Each year just seems to keep getting better than the last. Thank you all.
For the next two months I am locked away in the studio writing new songs for Splinter, a long overdue project that I am now obsessed by and desperate to get finished as quickly as possible. The reaction to Dead Son Rising and the excitement of the DSR tour has filled me with a level of commitment and confidence I haven’t experienced for some time. Come December we will take to the road again with the second part of the Dead Son Rising tour and then it will be back into the studio for the final sessions of Splinter. This year has been great, with so much still to come before it ends, but next year should be very special.

ALBUM ANNOUNCEMENT
We are pleased to announce that Gary Numan returns this autumn with a new album Dead Son Rising. The new album developed out of a set of demos the singer had left from previous projects, but as he explains: ‘The original ideas that sparked off these songs are now barely visible. It’s grown into another animal, something more experimental.”
Produced and co-written by Ade Fenton ( Numan’s collaborator on 2006’s Jagged), the material ranges from the heavily anthemic ‘The Fall’ (written about ‘an old friendship gone bad’) to the Arabic and ghostly ‘We Are The Lost’ and one of the standout moments, the brooding ‘Dead Sun Rising’. The latter both contain elements from a sci-fi fantasy story Numan has been writing over the last few years. Meanwhile, troubled relationships are explored on ‘For The Rest Of My Life’ and Not The Love We Dream Of’, and there’s also room for two instrumentals (‘Resurrection’ and ‘Into Battle’), showcasing some of the ‘soundtrack-type’ material that Numan and Fenton have been working on recently. It all adds up to one of Numan’s most atmospheric albums – one for those who loved his B-side experiments in the past but also containing some very direct, streamlined electronic rock in the likes of ‘Big Noise Transmission’, ‘The Fall’ and ‘When The Sky Bleeds, He Will Come’.
