SPLINTER ALBUM & UK TOUR
Gary Numan’s new album Splinter will be released worldwide on Monday 14th October, to be followed by a UK Tour in November. We’ll have more details soon, but it ranges from the wall-of-electronic noise that is ‘I Am Dust’ to slower velocity anthems such as ‘Where I Can Never Be’ and the orchestral strings of ‘Scream’. The album features guitarist Robin Finck (Nine Inch Nails, Guns N Roses) and is produced by long-standing collaborator Ade Fenton.
Although Numan released a straight-to-the-fanbase album Dead Son Rising in 2011, this is his first self penned full album since Jagged in 2006. In recent years he’s been quoted as an influence by everyone from Lady Gaga to Kanye West; Matthew Dear to Queens Of The Stone Age, The Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails (the latter inviting Numan on stage at several shows in 2009, including their o2 Arena concert in London); Prince to Boyz Noise, Richie Hawtin and Battles (they released a single ‘My Machines’ on Warp Records with Numan in 2011). But while Numan’s unique style continues to connect with fans from the worlds of Metal, Hip Hop, EDM, Industrial and Indie, he remains as focussed as ever in pursuing his own singular vision. Splinter sounds like no-one else while utilising new sounds and ideas. Perhaps it’s the voice – one of the most distinctive in rock music and often associated with machines and icy alienation, but for those who are drawn to Numan’s songs, his singing is strangely emotional, almost soulful in places. And if you like that side of his writing, you certainly won’t be disappointed with the new album where there are 4 or 5 tracks that set Numan’s vocals against moody atmospheric slow-burners to stunning effect.

Could we bring your attention to the supposed ‘Gold album award for Pure’ currently being auctioned on E-Bay.
Please understand this is not official. This has been made by the same people it’s supposedly been ‘presented’ to, with the singular intention of trying to pretend it’s rare and sought after and in so doing get some innocent fan to pay a lot of money for it. Please don’t do it. It’s a rip off. We can all paint an album we couldn’t sell with cheap Gold paint and get it framed, then pretend it’s an ‘award’. Do you really want to pay hundreds of pounds for tat like that?
It’s just another example of how this particular person has been targeting Gary Numan fans for a number of years now. He’s threatened me before when we blocked his attempts to rip you off, I’m sure he will now do so again. Save your money.

Artrocker editor-in-chief Tom Artrocker has conducted a series of interviews with Gary spanning April to September 2012, discussing the past, present and future. Tom also spoke to co-producer Ade Fenton, members of Gary’s present band as well as former alumni, Gary’s merch man of many years. I wanted to wish you all a very happy Christmas and New Year. I am, as always, very grateful for the support you gave to me in 2012, I can promise you that it isn’t something I take for granted. I am deeply aware that your support is something that I have to earn, year after year. We are working flat out on new Splinter tracks at the moment so, for me, 2013 will be a very exciting period as we also have ambitious plans for touring the new album around the World. We have several other projects planned throughout next year as well, so it promises to be extremely busy with lots for fans to hopefully enjoy.
